Full of Month of Trainings

FULL MONTH OF TRAINING

The month of March was FULL of trainings.  We trained new missionaries coming to serve in Sub-Saharan Africa.  We trained current missionaries serving in Sub-Saharan Africa in their first term.  We trained believers in our local church to evangelize and disciple people as they live out their day-to-day lives.  We trained nurturers in the Growing Redemptive Participator Approach (GrPA).  We also started corresponding with missionaries who will be starting their stateside training to come and serve in Sub-Saharan Africa later this year.

Reflecting and writing up that list of trainings makes me tired, but it has been such a sweet time of pouring into others!

Along the way, we have also spent time in local ministry, sharing the gospel and studying together with our disciples.

The hardest part of this month was our vacation that was abruptly cut short.  After our week of training nurturers to teach language, we planned a day to spend at the beach, the pool and just relax.  We arrived at the resort on Friday afternoon, ate lunch, took a dip in the pool, and went to the air-conditioned room for a lovely afternoon nap.  We were awakened to chatter about the president’s upcoming announcement.  We switched the TV on just in time to listen to his announcement and then rush into action.  He announced 5 counties in Kenya were going into lockdown at midnight, including Nairobi.  It was 4:00pm, and we were a 10-hour drive from Nairobi.  If we were going to have any chance of getting home, we had to leave immediately!  We were packed up and in a rental car with a driver by 5pm.  After 2-3 hours in the car, a follow-up announcement was made. We had until Monday to get home.  (SIGH) We were able to slow down and sleep a few hours in a hotel along the way, returning home around 9:30am the following morning.  In hindsight, we were glad we made the decision to return immediately.  And by God’s grace, we were given a voucher by the resort to return again since our visit was cut short.

As we look back and reflect on the last month, we can’t help but look forward as we gear up for our stateside assignment.  We are excited to be with family, report to church partners about what God is doing in and around Africa, as well as hear from church partners about how God is moving in the states.
